Strontium Releases DDR 3 Memory modules for Laptop and Desktop PCs Available in 1GB and 2GB capacities respectively New Delhi, India, May 27, 2009
Strontium Technology of Singapore today introduced their leading edge DDR-3 modules for notebooks and desktops for the Indian market. The retail packaged high speed DDR-3 modules are available in 1333MHz and 1066MHz speeds as 240 pin UDIMMs and 204 pin SODIMMs in 1GB and 2GB densities.
The modules would meet demands of enthusiasts and gamers looking for ever higher performance at more efficient power consumption parameters. Mr. Vivian Singh, CEO, Strontium Technology Pte Ltd, Singapore said 'Currently DDR-3 is servicing the high end leading edge segment of the market but it is steadily becoming main stream and we should see wider adoption over the next couple of quarters'.
DDR3 memory provides a reduction in power consumption up to 30% compared to DDR2 modules due to DDR-3's 1.5v supply voltage, compared to DDR-2's 1.8v. This means longer battery life for notebook user. The 1.5 V supply voltage works well with the Sub 70 Nm technology used in the DDR3 chips. The main benefit of DDR3 comes from the higher bandwidth made possible by DDR3's 8 bit deep pre-fetch buffer, in contrast to DDR2's 4 bit prefetch buffer or DDR's 2 bit buffer.
"This new line of Strontium DDR3 memory has undergone extensive compatibility testing to ensure that customers can enjoy a hassle-free experience," said Mr. Vivian Singh.
Mr. Ajay Kogta, Country Manager, India Sub-continent, said, "Strontium memory modules are build to the highest specifications with the premium resources and chipsets from Major Brand like Hynix and Micron. The memory modules therefore manufactured, undergo challenging laboratory tests to ensure trustworthy value, performance and quality".
Strontium DDR3-modules are currently available in 1 GB and 2GB capacities with a life time warranty. According to Kogta, "Strontium DDR-3 modules would be available through our regular channel partners. This will help all our partners to get familiarized with the new product and they would be well positioned to take advantage of growing market when DDR-3 becomes mainstream product in the near future".
Key Features of Strontium DDR-3 Memory:
| |
Fly-by command/ address/ control bus with on-DIMM termination |
| |
High precision calibration resistors |
| |
Are not backwards compatible -- inserting a DDR3 module into a DDR2 socket can damage the DIMM and/ or the motherboard |
| |
"Dual-Gate" transistors to reduce leakage of current |
| |
100% Tested |
| |
Lifetime Warranty |
| |
ROHS Compliant |
Advantages:
| |
Higher bandwidth performance, effectively up to 1600 MHz |
| |
Improved latencies as measured in nanoseconds |
| |

Technology, Media & Telecommunications Industry Spending On Security And
Privacy Declines With Economy Deloitte Global Survey Reveals Social Media Tools and Regulatory Issues as Areas of Concern Bangalore, India, May 15, 2009
Companies in the technology, media and telecommunications industries (TMT) significantly reduced investment in security spending in 2008, according to a new survey from Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. The third edition of the Deloitte Global TMT Security Survey reveals that 32 percent of respondents reduced their information security budgets, while 60 percent of respondents believe they are "falling behind"
or still "catching up" to their security threats - a significant increase from 49 percent over the previous year.
"This year's results indicate that TMT companies are explicitly scaling back on investments in security and that is worrying" said Ravi Veeraraghavan, Senior Director, Enterprise Risk Services of Deloitte in India. "Change and Innovation are constants for companies in this sector. This ever-changing environment throws up a lot of security challenges that require substantial financial investment. Companies that under-invest in security now may find themselves vulnerable and unable to keep pace with the growing threats from increasingly sophisticated attacks and emerging technologies."
With the proliferation of digitized assets, security should claim a significant portion of a company's overall IT budget. However, only 6 percent of respondents allocate 7 percent or more of their total budget to IT security. This year represents a significant decline from the previous edition of the survey, which showed that 36 percent of the respondents allocated 7 percent or more of their budget to IT security.
The survey also indicates that declining security investment is hindering adoption of new security technologies, with only 53 percent of respondents considering their organizations to be early adopters, or part of the early majority, down from 67 percent in 2007. Companies are focusing more effort on optimizing solutions that are already in place rather than investing in cutting-edge technology that can be capitalized upon during economic recovery.
Social Networking Adds to the List of Insider Threats
While social networks and blogs can be powerful enablers, they also increase organizations' internal security challenges. In today's connected world, insider threats are greater than ever. Survey results show that "exploitation of vulnerabilities in web 2.0 technologies" and "social engineering" techniques such as pretexting and phishing are regarded as a threat to a company's information security, with 83 percent and 80 percent of respondents respectively.
Furthermore, generational differences have a major influence on perceptions of privacy. Information sharing for the youngest generation of TMT workers can test the limits of traditional privacy laws. In contrast, older generations have a different perspective on privacy. Survey respondents recognize this issue, with 56 percent rating "cultural interpretations" as an "average" to "very high" threat to their information security.
The survey also cites that with new vulnerabilities constantly emerging, TMT companies are less confident in their ability to deal with internal security risks. This year, only 28 percent of respondents rate themselves as "very confident" or "extremely confident" with regard to internal threats, down from 51 percent in 2007. Forty-one percent of respondents experienced at least one internal security breach in the past 12 months.
Additionally, companies do not have the necessary resources in place to cope with emerging network vulnerabilities. Only 47 percent of those surveyed currently have a privacy program in place, and only 44 percent have an executive responsible for privacy - the latter down from 50 percent a year earlier. This aligns with the fact that many TMT companies do not have a program for managing privacy compliance (33 percent), a written privacy policy (28 percent), nor a formal directive with respect to the destruction
of personal information (28 percent).
"Information and intellectual property are the most important assets of a TMT company. Ensuring that these assets are adequately protected in today's digital environment is critical for organizations." said Ravi.
Regulatory Issues Are Moving to the Forefront
TMT companies face a myriad of rules and regulations that relate to information security and strict compliance is critical, particularly in a tough economy. Failure to comply can expose a company to hefty fines and significant liability. However, compliance with rules and regulations may not be sufficient for TMT companies to mitigate their information security risks. Over 67 percent of respondents say that regulatory security requirements are at best "somewhat effective" for improving their information security posture. A majority (57 percent) of respondents believe that effectively meeting regulatory requirements is either inadequately funded or missing senior executive support.
For the complete survey results report discussing these and other findings, please visit www.deloitte.com.

It was very difficult to generate monthly reports comprising data from multiple databases in the prescribed International format.
Mr. Jagdish Keswani Managing Director, Bollhoff Fastenings, says, "As our customer base grew in size and the orders became more complex and random, we needed robust, modular and scalable financial and operations software that could tightly bind the various aspects of our business together and evolve as per our requirements."
"I was very clear about the features we wanted in the ERP product to address our requirements and when I came across Sage Accpac through Across Domain, the solution implementation partner, I was immediately interested," added Mr. Jagdish.
The benefits Bollhoff Fastenings has derived is the real time view of stock availability and customer credit history has resulted in reducing errors and reorders during the sales process. Reports are generated automatically in the required format using predefined formulas. Consolidated view of company finances enables better budgetary estimations.
"We are very focused on this segment and have built up significant domain expertise with our implementation partners across India. Sage believes in adding value to its customers and will continue taking a 'solutions approach' to address the needs of this segment. It is a tried and test product, which is why we have a number of customer-wins in India for Sage Accpac ERP. This is a unique offering from Sage and differentiates us in the marketplace for small and medium businesses," said, Thomas Abraham, Managing Director, Sage India".
Sage Accpac is a highly scalable and modular ERP application that provides robust financial & accounting support and real time inventory control and visibility. It also supports multiple currencies, features a strong reporting tool and comprises of modules that are very tightly integrated with each other so that a small change in one module results in a corresponding change in the related fields of the other modules as well.
