It's a fine morning and not the only reason for 20-year old Ashwin to feel upbeat. It's the day he hopes to land a job as a DTP operator. A friend had told him that a certain company was hiring people. Bubbling with enthusiasm, Ashwin finds his way to the office, which he hopes to soon call 'my office'. After all, he had a Desk Top Publishing Course Certificate, didn't he? Oh yes! He has every reason to feel upbeat.
He moves towards the man at the reception, greets him and announces the reason why he's there. The man's gaze is locked onto Ashwin and his wheelchair. He completely misses the eagerness writ large on that innocent face and shows the least interest in his credentials and testimonials. He concludes that Ashwin isn't suitable and slams the door on his face. A distraught Ashwin wheels his way back home.
Oh Dear! What an attitude. And where was Ashwin's fault? Because he has Cerebral Palsy? But Hey! He wasn't looking for pity, just seeking his right to be a part of society and contribute. |
