Unit Blocks constitutes an important route for overall child development. Research has shown that Blocks stimulate interesting behaviors amongst children. The way they move their muscles, discover how different objects feel in their hands, the way they think about spaces and shapes and the way they develop thoughts. Blocks bring out new experiences of a child's imagination. They observe, they investigate, they organize and in doing so, they reflect clearly their feelings and meanings in their creations. For example, if they stack or line up these blocks, they are demonstrating their first attempts to build structures and fantasy play.
Block play encourages children to make friends, co-operate while playing in groups and develop team spirit. They begin to understand different perspectives, develop skills in design and comprehend what is balance and stability. Blocks make children intelligent as they help in the learning of many academic subjects, as also improving their vocabulary and math skills. Blocks offer children a chance to indulge in 'pretend-play', increase their sense of imagination and demonstrate the abilities and potential they possess.
At 'Stepping Stones', rather than asking, "What did you make?" it's always "Tell me about what you made" and straightaway, a dialogue with the child gets initiated, thus providing the child an opportunity to offer their unique interpretation on their creation. |
