The Song On Everyone's Lips...
"My strength is basically technology and over the years I've become a manager at Icode," says Suryanarayana Murthy, who hails from Vijayawada. A Science graduate and a post graduate in Computer Applications, Suryanarayana Murthy later did his MBA in Finance, joined Icode 5 years ago as project leader and is today project manager heading various projects. In his previous job with another software firm at Vijayawada he had tremendous exposure to financial applications such as financial accounting, inventory control, production planning and things like that. Skills those were tailor-made for Icode.
"We have a fleet of products," explains Suryanarayana Murthy. "Under 'Everest' we have 'Everest Enterprise' which caters to the desktop application. Then we have a module where from anywhere in the world you can go to Internet Explorer and connect to the database. Then we have e-commerce, which is for the shoppers to directly interact with our database. Then we have wireless applications." And he heads all these projects. He has under him individual project leaders for each of the product lines.
How did he adapt himself to the culture at Icode from a relatively small-sized company that he worked in Vijayawada? Culture Shock? Not quite. "When I joined, Icode comprised of only 11 members. I still remember, we used to move together as friends," he says. Despite the growth, things haven't changed. But the bond still exists. In fact, he tells us that many of those who joined Icode since inception are still around.
'Microsoft. We want to make products like Microsoft. We want to be like Microsoft.'That's a song on everyone's lips. "We are at a stage where Microsoft was perhaps 20 years back. We want to grow to that level," says Suryanarayana Murthy and quickly adds, "The expectations are high. It's a common goal all of us share."
His major reason to shift from Vijayawada and the company he worked with was to move away from domestic software development and enhance his knowledge into bigger projects with more scope and exposure at an international level. Icode provided him that opportunity and Suryanarayana Murthy could well have used that as a springboard to hoist himself into bigger companies. But, no! Instead, he liked being here so much that he decided to stay put. He heads the Everest Project Suite team and his immediate, next level team is made up of 6 members. And under them networked are a total of 102 members.
That's one big team. But then, 'Everest' is one helluva big product too.
