Education in India is something where there's really nothing to write home about. The reasons are many. Bereft of ideas could be one such. Perhaps the point is best made by someone who once said, "Education is not intended to make lawyers or clergymen, soldiers or schoolmasters, farmers or artisans, but men." Fifty-plus years of Independence and we haven't made much headway. The men, machine, moron imbalance persists till today. It's not to say that there aren't good educational institutions in our country. As a matter of fact, we have some of the best. It's just that there are but a handful and despite this, Indian talent rides high. So, one can imagine…
Having said that, the contrast is startlingly different vis-ŕ-vis management education in our B-schools. The 'pick-of-the-lot' amongst Indian Business Schools is undoubtedly, the IIMs. Okay, so there will be arguments on that point till the cows come home. We'll worry about that when they do. We mean, the cows. But if the industry yardstick of picking primarily from the IIMs is something to go by, then we are willing to enter the ring and take on the cows, bulls, whatever.
Year after year, all roads somehow lead to the IIMs. Now, you tell us why?
